  • All kinds of magic not practiced by their witches distrusted and illegal on Firsthold and Dornav
  • No corporate worship; witches are the only qualified citizens to deal with the supernatural
  • Every able-bodied male or female above the age of 13 fights during wartime
  • Very nautically-oriented; ship-making and sailing play large roles in education
  • Clannish legal codes; local defendants are given the benefit of the doubt, especially when the plaintiff is an outlander
  • Simple legislature; no killing (unless threatened), no stealing, no raping, no blaspheming
  • Foreigners (not outlanders, there's a difference) are never extradited; you fuck up there, you get fucked up there
